What Is Buddhism?
Buddhism was developed over 2500 years ago in North India. It remains to this day one of the most advanced and revolutionary vision of reality the world has ever known. Even today modern science, especially psychology still borrows ideas and insights developed by the Buddha all those centuries ago.
The Buddha is a title which means "One Who is Awake". This is not just ordinary awakening but an awakening from the confusion that prevents us from living effectively and enjoyably. He woke up to what life was really all about and how to make the most of it. If there is a life after this how to make the most of that. But if there is no life after this then at least you can make good use of the one you have.
Buddhist Ethics
According to the Buddha’s teaching - actions are right or wrong, perfect or imperfect, according to your motivation. Amazingly, ethics does not need to be mystical and theological. It can be purely psychological.
Buddhism isn't just a religious idea it is a complete and practical system to develop our amazing human potential and make the most profitable use of this short time on earth. Combining an aware understanding of our psychological make up with meditation - wisdom and insight gradually develop.
Courses
There is an opportunity for questions and discussions about Buddhism as well as meditation. But we have to be out of Shambhala by 1.00pm. We sometimes meet up for a chat in one of the many coffee shops around Leigh or once you know the 2 meditations we teach at Shambhala you are welcome to come to our Thursday night classes or our Buddhist festivals or ceremonies that we hold informally.
